Gloucester

Gloucester

Nestled between the Cotswolds and the Forest of Dean lies the cathedral city of Gloucester, Britain’s most inland port. Gloucester has played a prominent role in the history of England. It was here that William the Conqueror ordered a vast survey of the land in his kingdom for tax purposes.

Gloucester city is filled with ancient and stunning architecture, from the world-famous Gloucester Cathedral and Blackfriars Priory,  to the historic Llanthony Secunda Priory and Discover De Crypt.

Gloucester also boasts a number of museums, which tell the stories of Gloucester’s rich history. These include the Museum of Gloucester, The Tailor of Gloucester – Beatrix Potter Museum & Shop and the National Waterways Museum.  Each of these offers a unique insight into differing aspects of Gloucester’s past, and highlight the city’s proud military and industrial heritage. Sports fans flock to the city to experience the roar from ‘The Shed’ at Gloucester Rugby.

The city also has a diverse cultural scene, where you can’t enjoy live music, exhibitions, activities, and events. Throughout the year, the city hosts a wide range of festivals and events, from the nostalgic Gloucester Goes Retro  to the thumping Rooftop Music Festival.
