The Sussex Heritage Coast
The glorious stretch of coast between Eastbourne and Seaford, known as the Sussex Heritage Coast, is one of the longest expanses of undeveloped coastline on the south coast, a stunning 14 km-long pocket of pristine shoreline with white cliffs and sweeping chalk grassland, with beautiful views at every stride. It’s one of the undoubted highlights of the South Downs National Park, and there is always a steady stream of walkers tramping along the blowy clifftops.
Heading from Eastbourne, the first obstacle is a 160m-high Beachy Head, the UK’s tallest chalk cliff, than come the Seven Sisters cliffs with their dramatic Channel vistas, descending into pretty Cuckmere Haven, where it’s said Hitler planned to kick off his invasion of Britain. The path turns inland and up into the hills with Roman villas, lost villages and deep ice-age valleys.
Are you still little wonder why this corner of Sussex so popular?
