Longleat Safari Park opened in 1966 as the first drive-through safari park outside Africa, and is home to over 500 animals, including Rothschild’s giraffes, Grant’s zebras, Rhesus monkeys, rhinos, African lions, Amur tigers, cheetahs, koalas and spotted hyenas, grey wolves, cheetahs, koalas and spotted hyenas.

Nestled in the rural West Country, Longleat sits on the border of Wiltshire and Somerset. There are stunning countryside views and walks to be enjoyed, as well as numerous historic and heritage landmarks, only a short distance from the Estate. 

Longleat House was built in the sixteenth century by Sir John Thynn on the site of a dissolved priory, and in 1949 became the first stately home in Britain to be opened to the public on a commercial basis. The 9,800-acre estate, of which the park occupies 900 acres, has long been one of the top British tourist attractions.

Discover various species of animal from around the world at Longleat travel by road, rail, waterway and foot. Explore the Safari Drive-through and be entertained by the infamous Rhesus monkeys as they clamber over cars. Continue on your journey across continents observing a range of carnivores from the big cats to the hyena and pack of wolves as they roam free in their open enclosures creating up close encounters you’ll never forget.

The exotic species continue as you explore the main park with squeal-inducing koalas to the endearing red panda. Walk with the meerkats, discover  Cuban crocodiles and watch the charming giant otters play in their underwater viewing enclosure.

Let energetic children explore a medieval fortress in the Adventure Castle, enjoy a Rockin’ Rhino ride, race to find the centre of the Hedge Maze then, take a breath, and board the miniature Longleat Railway for a relaxing journey around the Park’s scenic woodland.

From Longleat itself, sure-footed explorers can meander up to Heaven's Gate, the spectacular lookout point at the very top of the Park and enjoy its stunning vista - perfect for a romantic sunset. Continue on towards Shearwater, the vast lake nestled within Longleat Forest’s woodland, and the perfect spot for a picnic.
