St Andrews
Scotland’s world-famous Home of Golf, is known for its historic university, medieval streets and gorgeous traditional buildings. The town is filled with exciting things to see and do, from St Andrews Cathedral to nearby Scotland’s Secret Bunker.
Scotland’s oldest university town, St Andrews is now a mecca for golfers. It is standing proudly on the east coast and within half an hour from Dundee and less than two hours from Edinburgh and Glasgow.
St Andrew’s three main streets and numerous cobbled alleys, full of crooked house fronts, university buildings and medieval churches, converge on the ruins of the 12th-century cathedral, which was pillaged for stones to build the town.
St Andrew’s Castle was built for the bishops of the town in 1200. The British Golf Museum tells how the town’s Royal and Ancient Golf Club became the ruling arbiter of the game, and to the west, the town’s golf courses are open for a modest fee.
