The Royal Academy of Arts
Founded in 1768, the Royal Academy is one of the Britain’s oldest art Institutions. Thought it holds one of the nation’s great art collections it is perhaps best known for its annual Summer Exhibition, which comprises a mix of around 1,200 new works by established and unknown painters, sculptures and architects.
Celebrating its 250th anniversary in 2018, the Royal Academy expanded its exhibition spaces and linked two majestic Italianate buildings – Burlington House and Burlington Gardens- via a bridge. The addition of several galleries, including the Vaults and the Collection Gallery, allows more space to display highlights from the exceptional permanent collection, which includes works by Michelangelo and Constable , as well as the work of contemporary artists.
